MADHOUSE
A Tragic Tale of Megalomania and Modern Medicine
By Andrew Scull

The book concerns Dr. Henry Cotton who believed in a theory that mental illness was caused by germs. to cure the patient he operated on the stomach area. many patients died form infections and other complications.

this kind of topic allows me to publish some obsessive doodling which I do a lot of in my notebooks.

By John Edgar Wideman

2.26.05

after seeing my "how to dance" series.

carol kauffman at the la times asked me to make a picture for Before the Frost
A Novel by
Henning Mankell

i try to avoid using photoshop as much as possible in my work, but this time it made sense to scan and use the existing dancer images.

to me the most satisfying illustration work that comes my way is work that i've already finished before its commisioned.

this isnt because im lazy ( which definitely i am) it has to do with the feeling that once in a blue moon, there is a flow to my ideas as an artist that are in sync with the whats "out there"is very satisfying.
